NBC Olympics’ production of the 2014 Olympic winter games in Sochi to utilize AllDigital Brevity for simultaneous transport and transcoding technology

February 4, 2014 – Brevity has been selected to provide simultaneous transport and transcoding technology to NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, during its production of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, from February 6-February 23. The announcement was made today by Phil Paully, Director, Graphics Engineering and Operations, NBC Olympics.

Brevity will simplify NBC Olympics’ workflow and enable significant bandwidth optimization. With Brevity, NBC Olympics will render graphics on the fly while seamlessly transferring those graphics files into the Avid® DNxHD® format for editing. NBC Olympics will cover simultaneous sporting events occurring each day across different venues throughout the Sochi Games. The event will use Brevity’s technology to drive efficiencies by automating critical workflows needed for the production. These efficiencies in time and bandwidth savings will provide NBC Olympics with more flexibility to make edits in production material.

Brevity’s patented technology will simultaneously transport and transcode RLE files into an Avid DNxHD file (with the Alpha channel retained), allowing NBC Olympics to move a one-minute RLE file to the Avid editing solution in less than 30 seconds. In addition, Brevity’s parallel processing capability processes hundreds of RLE graphics files in an hour. Brevity can also provide encoding of Avid system files directly into EVS Broadcast formats.

Brevity will be used by NBC in the International Broadcast Center as well as multiple venues throughout Sochi to manage terabytes of video graphics.

Paully said: “We are pleased to continue to work with Brevity. Brevity software will allow us faster data transport and the ability to choose what codec and standard we need for graphic integration and playback.”
